day-365-or-week-52

I've been doing some thinking about my photography over the past couple of weeks and what I want to do with it...I've noticed that similar to other hobbies if you don't practice you get rusty, and to say I'm rusty is a bit of an understatement...so we come to the point of this post...decision time another try at a 365, go easy with a project 52, or take it easy and look for something else to do with photography? Well, I've got time... t-minus 10-days and counting or is it 11?

day-who-knows

Crazy, has it really been six months since I last got around to posting? Can I get a mulligan on this 365? Yeah, everyone said it would be tough...if only I had listened... Life got a little crazy and I got a little burned out...at first I said I would take a day off then a week then a month and then next thing you know here we are 6 months later...Ohh well so be it... we'll try it again...next year...maybe...

Day-one-hundred-fifteen...

iPod... So I finally took my iPod out of the car for once cause I was starting to lose songs, anyone have that same issue? I haven't sync'd it with the computer in probably 2+ years and all of the sudden last week playlists started disappearing then whole songs... ohh well time for a wipe and start over... till tomorrow... enjoy...

T2-008... my favorite on-road RC car, but alas I don't play with it enough to justify keeping it in the house... too many hobbies not enough time, plus for such a little car it takes up quite a bit of space in terms of supplies and equipment required to keep it running... ohh well, it will be missed... but maybe a new lens will help get me through that... :)

Ads... Who ever designed the layout of ads on things now a days have me wondering, like this cup for example why not space the ads out across each side of the cup... no its on the same side as well as right on top of the other... ohh well its their cup their design... I just know I wouldn't do it that way... next photo...

Kitty... Cats are hard to photograph... this one is no exception... it started out as a simple portrait of Ty, and once the strobes started going off he was more interested in them than he was staying put for a photo. So when you get lemons... what else can you do other than make lemonade... next photo...

Day-one-hundred-six...

Colors... So my subject for the evening was a no show, so "my little friend" had to step in, I know two days of toys... well nothing I could do, but I had to get my photo one way or another...

On a side note, for the next week I'm switching my post editing software from LightRoom 3 B2 to Aperture 3. This is a little scary as I've gotten quite use to LR3 and actually quite quick with it, but seeing as its only a beta and expires when the full version comes out and how I already own a copy of Aperture 3, I figured now would be a better time than ever to at least try it out and maybe make the switch... till tomorrow... enjoy...

Theme... So I've been contemplating for a while about following a few others who are also doing project 365 similar to myself on doing a day theme like bokeh Wednesday, bench Monday, etc... then I thought why don't I just make up my own, this is my project after all... so I'm going to be trying out my own version of this and call it "Toy Thursday" I'll be taking a picture of some toy every Thursday and also possibly trying out a new post processing technique as well if I pick something up that week... so lets start this off shall we... till tomorrow... enjoy...

Sunset... My relatives came up today to Austin today for a quick day trip to check out the sites... I hung out with them after work of course, they wanted to see Mt.Bonnell and I was more than happy to oblige their request and I figured why not get my photo of the day while I was up there. Micro-105... One of the more useful lenses that I've purchased over the last year, I originally got it so that I could do macro shots of Sarah's fish tank. Then it evolved into a pretty sharp lens for product photography, and on a DX body it makes for a really sharp portrait lens.

After a month plus of using nothing but zooms I've decided its time to get back to basics so my primes come out, this being my favorite one, plus its time to put a few things I haven't been using up for sale and I can't think of a better lens for some product shots...

Bluebonnet... Every year I say I'm going to go out and photograph bluebonnets and every year I either can't find a safe field to photograph at (they grow on the sides of roads everywhere in Texas), weather doesn't cooperate, I'm just too busy, or I forget all together. Well not this year, I lucked out as I went on a small walkabout around the SEU campus playing my new geo-location game "My Town" on my iPhone and came across the area around the soccer field covered in bluebonnets, and luckily for me I had my G11 handy...

Day-one-hundred...

Crazy... Wow, I've made it to day one-hundred, check that off on the mile-stone chart... I know I've been lagging in making daily posts, but its been a wee bit hectic, I promise to try harder to post something daily...

I guess I should line out some guidelines that I've been following for this project 365 so far, as people who know I've been doing this have been confused at why somethings get done but not others... again these are just guidelines not really rules as this is my project on my terms...

1. I have to take a picture daily, doesn't matter what camera, doesn't matter what style, it has to be a picture that I've created and somehow relates to something in my daily goings on...
2. I don't have to post daily, I try to post daily but some days are just better than others and lately its just been a wee bit crazy with work and all...
3. If I have an photographic assignment I'm allowed to use an outtake as my daily posting, but not the actual assignment...
4. I'm doing this to help me become a better well rounded photographer (techinally, graphically, etc.), and hopefully help me find my style and niche while I'm at it.
5. I also hope with the "Photo Info" sections I write up I'm able to share info with other photographers with learning something new...
6. Which brings up the question... why do people hide their exif metadata, just look at it the way I do "Imitation is the sincerest of flattery."

Anyway, the photo above is of someone who is really crazy (I'm going to be nice and not mention names)... don't mention her kids she's a little "pikon" (<---understatement, look it up its tagalog)about them... and this expression on her face fits the title ohh so well... Oh well another day... and almost caught up again... on to the next photo...

Calm... What looks calm outside doesn't always mean it is on the inside, I heard this a long time ago from I don't know who, but as I looked outside my office window today it felt like it applied... as the wind blew the trees around and clouds looked like they were about to start storming I looked over at my blinds and saw well my blinds... not a movement, a sound, anything... food for thought... till tomorrow...

Woops... Sarah had a little bit of an accident with a metal halide bulb... the only casualty was this bulb, she's doing fine didn't hurt herself and the tank is doing just fine... on an upside the tank is looking sweet with the new bulbs...

I'm now officially caught up on this project 365... the toughest thing about this project is finding time to process and post daily which with my busy schedule is getting tougher and tougher, I always carry a camera with me where ever be it my DSLR, a P&S, or my iPhone... so finding something to take a picture of is never an issue... till tomorrow... enjoy...

Cats... So I've been told that I've got to work on pet photography, so this is my attempt at it... so just a few tips from someone who has tried and come out with some decent shots like this... high-iso if you're shooting indoors, run motor-drive as they like to move around alot, try to preset your focus point on where you think they're going to go, and treats are a good way to bribe them to stay in place or at least a general area... so get out there an shoot some photos of your pets...

24-70... This is currently the most used lens on my D700, I know that a lot of folks think this a pretty boring range, my thought on this is that this range makes you a lazy photographer, and honestly I usually used the far ends of the zoom at either 24mm or 70mm if not that it was at or around 50mm... still a fairly useful lens for my purposes as I only carry one lens instead of 3, but it does make you think eh...

I was waiting for the first act getting my equipment ready for a showcase at the Encore patio for SXSW 2K10 and these two girls just came up to me and asked me to take their picture. No info on where it would be posted if even or who they even are, just they wanted their picture taken. This happened to me three or four times daily so I've now got a bunch of pictures of people I don't know from the different venues I photographed... ohh well mass update as I've been shooting alot and been totally lazy about posting... so on to the next pic...
